About the play
Historical fiction resulting from the intersection of investigations of narratives transmitted orally through the Charrúa people and reading of history texts by contemporary authors. It is inspired by the figure of Melchora Cuenca (1790-1870), spearwoman of the Army of the Free Peoples (Confederation of Allied Provinces, 1814-1820), teacher, wife of General José Gervasio Artigas.
It seeks to make visible the role of women and indigenous peoples in the struggles for the independence of America. Identity is addressed through the empirical, corporal and sensory exploration of the cultures originating from the ITU region, where the events took place; the distribution of lands, territorial limits and the review of certain historical events of national and regional significance are themes that also make up the narrative.
The text and the bodies on stage constantly dialogue with the sound story linked to the Mbyá Guaraní cosmophony and the original music created for the work, enriched by actions inspired by the rituals of the Charrúa people that appear throughout, such as sahúmo with herbs of the region and the tobacco ceremony, which contribute to the fictional construction by activating the senses.
